Well, if anything, Canadian filmmaker Guy Maddin is anything but predictable. The filmmaker has been carving out his own little corner in the film world, with movies that play like a hybrid of classic cinema of the past poured through David Lynch's fever dreams and then spun by Maddin into something uniquely his own. His is a particular flavor to get attuned with, but once you do, you definitely want to drink deep.
The ever busy director's next effort is "Keyhole," which brings together an impressive cast led by Isabella Rossellini, Jason Patric and Udo Kier for yet another oddball, surreal tale whose logline probably doesn't do it justice. But in any event, the film surrounds a gangster and deadbeat dad (Patric) who returns home after a long absence, and searches through his masoleum-like house for his estranged wife (Rosselini). Gender, sex, myth and more come into play as the images from the film have teased, this will be gorgeous to look at.
The first clip from "Keyhole" has arrived to give you a sneak preview, and yeah, that's a naked man on the floor. First impressions indeed. Monterey Media have picked up the film for the U.S. with a spring release date in the works. [Quiet Earth/Variety]
