'The Wave' Trailer: Things Get Weird For Justin Long In Gille Klabin’s Directorial Debut

Between the outlandish daydream sequences in “Scrubs” and…well, pretty much everything about “Tusk,” Donald Faison and Justin Long, respectively, have proven that they are not afraid to get a little weird and wacky with their creative choices. The duo has joined forces for their next weird project, Gille Klabin’s directorial debut, the trippy new film “The Wave.” The film was featured at Fantastic Fest, so you know it is bound to be the perfect kind of weird.

Faison and Long play Jeff and Frank – two pencil pushers working your run-of-the-mill 9-to-5 job. When Frank encounters a massive professional win, he and Jeff go out to celebrate. They meet some new friends who offer Frank hallucinogens. The film becomes a wild ride as the audience attempts to distinguish the line between reality and fantasy, right along with Frank.

The rest of the cast includes Tommy Flanagan (“Sons of Anarchy”), Sheila Vand (“A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night”), Katia Winter (“The Catch”), and Ronnie Gene Blevins (“True Detective”).

Take a look at the official synopsis below:

Justin Long (Die Hard 4.0, Accepted) and Donald Faison (Scrubs, Clueless) lead the unique modern-day parable that follows Frank (Long), an opportunistic insurance lawyer, who thinks he’s in for the time of his life when he goes out on the town to celebrate an upcoming promotion with his co-worker, Jeff (Faison). But their night takes a turn for the bizarre when Frank is dosed with a hallucinogen that completely alters his perception of the world, taking him on a psychedelic quest through board meetings, nightclubs, shootouts, and alternate dimensions. As Frank ping-pongs between reality and fantasy, he finds himself on a mission to find a missing girl, himself… and his wallet.

“The Wave” opens in theaters and Video on Demand on January 17, 2020. Take a look at the trailer below.
