“The Wire” wrapped up almost a decade-and-a-half ago, but it’s still one of HBO‘s most beloved shows. A lot of that comes from showrunner David Simon. Simon had credentials no one else could bring to that show as a journalist at The Baltimore Sun for thirteen years, as well as his 1991 book, “Homicide: A Year On The Killing Streets.” Paired with crime novelist George Pelecanos, Simon’s influence made “The Wire” one of the best all-around TV series of all time.

Now, Simon and Pelecanos team up again for a fourth time, after the short-lived HBO series “Treme” and “The Deuce,” for another Baltimore crime serial. “We Own This City,” a six-episode limited series to hit HBO and HBO Max this April, returns to Charm City for a new tale of police corruption and street life.
Here’s the show’s official synopsis:
Based on the book by Baltimore Sun reporter Justin Fenton, WE OWN THIS CITY chronicles the rise and fall of the Baltimore Police Department’s Gun Trace Task Force and the corruption and moral collapse that befell an American city in which the policies of drug prohibition and mass arrest were championed at the expense of actual police work.
Jon Bernthal leads an ensemble cast that includes Wunmi Mosaku, Jamie Hector, McKinley Belcher III, Darrell Britt-Gibson, Josh Charles, Dagmara Domińczyk, Rob Brown, and Don Harvey. David Corenswet, Larry Mitchell, Ian Duff, Delaney Williams, and Lucas Van Engen round out the main cast.
“We Own This City” also has its share of guest stars, including Treat Williams, Gabrielle Carteris, Tray Chaney, Domenick Lombardozzi, Thaddeus Street, Jermaine Crawford, and more.
Reinaldo Marcus Green, fresh of the success of “King Richard,” directs all six episodes of “We Own This City.”
Will David Simon’s return to Baltimore be another runaway success? Find out on April 25, when the show premieres exclusively on HBO and HBO Max. Watch the trailer below:
