Weezer Pen New Song For 'Shrek Forever After'; Sony Pictures Classics Picks Up 'The Illusionist' & More

Continuing their slide from once relevant garage pop band to mall punk morons, Weezer have written a new (and probably terrible) song for “Shrek Forever After.” Our only hope is that some kid manages to discover Pinkerton as a result.

Sony Pictures Classics has acquired the North American rights to Sylvain Chomet’s sophomore animation feature “The Illusionist.” The director earned considerable acclaim for his debut “The Triplets Of Belleville,” and his followup about a magician who tries to remain relevant in the age of rock ‘n roll looks to do the same. The film is set to hit theaters at the tail end of 2010.

Roger Ebert has posted the script to the abandoned Russ Meyer/Sex Pistols project “Who Killed Bambi?”. The out there film which the brainchild of Malcolm McLaren and at one point had even got as far as casting Marianne Faithful as Sid Vicious’ mother (!), P.J. Proby (an American born, Brit pop star) and Jon Finch. Alas, the film was never made but you can now read the entire script in an insanely lengthy blog post. Maybe someone can show Ebert how to host a PDF file?

Hollywood con artist, shell game huckster and pretend movie producer David Bergstein now has a bench warrant out for his arrest. Bergstein failed to show up yesterday for a scheduled court date after being ordered to do so. Bergstein is accused of using company money to gamble in Vegas, racking nearly a million dollars in debt. Of course, he claims this is everyone else’s fault except his.

In the ongoing saga of Roman Polanski, his lawyers have lashed out at U.S. attorneys after both an appeal to have the director sentenced and a petition by his victim Samantha Geimer to have the case dismissed were denied. “One gets the feeling that there’s the desire to see him arrive in shackles, when there’s no reason why Roman Polanski should be extradited, none at all,” said his lawyer Herve Temime. Polanski is now facing potential extradition to the U.S.

Randy Quaid and his wife Evi finally arrived in court two weeks late, and facing outstanding warrants. The couple were ordered held on $100,000 bail and are facing a hearing on Wednesday. They are facing felony charges after being accused of defrauding an inn out of more than $10,000.

Robyn Lively and Tony Hale have joined the cast of the indie film “Sironia.” The film centers on “a singer-songwriter beat up by the L.A. music machine who moves with his wife to Sironia, Texas.” So a western “Greenberg” of sorts? The film was written and will be be directed by Brandon Dickerson and is set to start shooting this weekend.
