Ok, this is the weirdest bit of casting news in a while. Christian Slater, Gary Oldman and Dane Cook are all set to star in “Girls, Guns & Gambling,” a crime thriller from indie writer/director Michael Winnick. And if you think the cast is weird, just wait until you hear the plot.
The film mixes up “Elvis impersonators, Indians, modern cowboys, a 6-foot-tall blond assassin, a frat boy, a corrupt sheriff and a prostitute into a chase for a priceless American Indian artifact stolen during a poker game at an Indian casino.” But wait, there’s more. Slater will play the straight guy in the film who drunkenly enters an Elvis impersonator contest in which Oldman is the top competitor. Um, what? Cook will play a sheriff and we’re still trying to figure out how Oldman got involved in this (though admittedly, the prospect of him chewing scenery as an Elvis impersonator is kind of weirdly exciting).
This one is moving quickly, with shooting to begin on July 6th. God, we would love to be a fly on the wall of the catering table conversations between these three guys.
