**Spoilers ahead** Netflix‘s summer smash hit series “Stranger Things” has provided audiences with no shortage of elements to latch onto. Whether it’s the killer score by Matt Dixon and Michael Stein, the return of Winona Ryder in a role that we haven’t quite seen from her before, or all the Amblin-esque touches, Matt and Ross Duffer have created a whole world that audiences have been thrilled to explore. But I bet even they were surprised at how much affection Nancy’s friend Barb (played by Shannon Purser) would gain from the viewers.
The character, who only appeared in a handful of episodes, and met her untimely demise at the hands of the fearsome monster lurking in the Upside Down, has become a fan favorite, and the show’s co-creator and co-director Matt Duffer promises that Barb hasn’t been forgotten (but confirms she’s very much dead, so don’t expect her to return).
“…Barb will not be forgotten. We’ll make sure there’s some justice for Barb. People get very frustrated, understandably, that the town doesn’t seem to be really dealing with Barb. That stuff is all happening. We’re just not spending any screen time on it,” he told IGN.
“It’s not like her parents are like ‘Oh Barb left. She died!’ Season One actually takes place over the course of six or seven days – it’s a really short period of time. So part of what we want to do with hypothetical Season 2 is to explore the repercussions of everything that happened,” he added.
So, some small good news for Barb advocates. Meanwhile, Duffer also adds that we haven’t seen the last of Matthew Modine whose Dr. Martin Brenner might not be dead after all, even after coming face to face with the monster in the season one finale.
All this being said, Netflix has yet to formally announce “Stranger Things” season two, but it seems pretty inevitable.
