You gotta hand it to Garth Jennings, Universal and Illumination because they really pulled out all the stops when assembling the voice cast for the upcoming animated musical “Sing.” Matthew McConaughey, Reese Witherspoon, Seth MacFarlane, Scarlett Johansson, John C. Reilly, Taron Egerton, Nick Kroll, Nick Offerman, Peter Serafinowicz, Leslie Jones, and Jay Pharoah are among the players, but it seems there are a few more interesting voices you’ll be hearing in the movie.
The eagle-eyed Collider noticed during the credits for the movie that Wes Anderson, Edgar Wright, and Chris Renaud (director of “Despicable Me” and “The Secret Life Of Pets“) are also in the film. It’s not clear what their roles are or even how prominently heard they are amongst the crowded cast, but for now, it’s an interesting bit of trivia. Jennings had small roles in Wright’s “Hot Fuzz” and “Shaun Of The Dead,” while Wright popped up in Jennings’ “Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy.” So it looks like old pals once again having some fun. And the same goes for Anderson, with Jennings voicing a character in “Fantastic Mr. Fox.”
And speaking of Wes Anderson and animated movies, you might have forgotten that last fall it was announced that his next movie would be a stop-motion effort featuring the voices of Jeff Goldblum, Bob Balaban, Edward Norton, and Bryan Cranston with dogs as the lead characters. There has been almost no information since, but Anderson himself revealed — in a sideways manner — that cameras are rolling, during an interview piece in GQ about New York City’s new arthouse cinema, The Metrograph.
“I’ve got an animated movie I’m doing that’s happening across the room from me right now. So I can see a long list of e-mails from people on the set whom I now need to address,” Anderson said as the interview was wrapping up. So, we can likely/hopefully expect his new movie in 2017, which is pretty great news.
For now, you can hear Anderson in “Sing” which opens on December 21st.
