With lensing continuing in Vancouver and Chicago on Zack Snyder's "Man Of Steel," one more actor has come aboard, and it may give some creedence to a rumor that has been kicking around. Or not.
Richard Schiff, best known as Toby Ziegler on "The West Wing," has joined the film in the role of Dr. Hamilton. We presume that means he'll be taking on Emil Hamilton, the professor, scientist and inventor who (in some iterations of the comic) eventually comes to think of Superman as a threat to the world. On the flipside, he's also aided Superman, creating many devices the hero has used including the Phantom Zone Projector, which allows him to communication with a prison dimension that houses folks like General Zod.
Now, in "Superman Returns," this character was played by Kal Penn, who worked for Kevin Spacey's Lex Luthor. A recent rumor banging around the net is that now that Bradley Cooper is free (for the moment) on the delayed "Paradise Lost," he's quietly come aboard Snyder's film as Luthor. Could Schiff be confirmation of that? We suppose if Hamilton is going evil, then yes. Guess we'll find out eventually, but either way, it's some interesting casting coming pretty late in the game.
There is still a long wait for this flick, which started shooting last year and is still 18 months away from hitting theaters. Starring Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Diane Lane, Kevin Costner, Michael Shannon, Antje Traue, Russell Crowe, Harry Lennix, Christopher Meloni, Laurence Fishburne and Ayelet Zurer, "Man Of Steel" arrives on June 14, 2013.
