Whether coming from the generally more conservative American studio system or the much more nudity friendly European arthouse world, marketing an epic, two-movie, sex-and-flesh filled saga called “Nymphomaniac” is no easy task. But the folks behind Lars von Trier‘s provocative latest have been doing it right, with monthly teasers and today, a little surprise with the unveiling of 14 character posters. And it’s some beautifully strange stuff.
As you know, the film is led by Charlotte Gainsbourg who plays Joe, a young woman who recounts her sexual history to a stranger after being found beaten in an alley. An odd enough logline coming from anyone else, but totally making sense when delivered from the mind of Lars von Trier. And below you get a look at the wide spectrum of characters in the film, each given their own unique treatment. Our faves? Udo Kier as The Waiter (reprising his role from “Melancholia” perhaps?) while Connie Nielsen is downright terrifying.
