Will Smith Would "Absolutely" Want To See David Ayer's Cut Of 'Suicide Squad'

The Snyder Cut fandom is one of the most vocal on social media when it comes to superhero films, leading the charge for years (using both positive and disgustingly negative means) to finally get the preferred cut of “Justice League” released. Now, a lot of those folks are trying to drum up support for the David Ayer Cut of “Suicide Squad.” Though everyone agrees that the original director’s cut of that film is likely better than the shoddy theatrical cut that was released, there doesn’t seem to be any indication that WB has any interest in actually putting money into it, especially considering James Gunn has taken that world and revamped it with his “The Suicide Squad” and “Peacemaker” projects. But perhaps a vote of confidence from Will Smith will help?

In a recent interview with Variety, while on the red carpet for the premiere of his new TV series, “Bel-Air,” Will Smith was asked if he’d like to see David Ayer’s original cut of “Suicide Squad” find its way to the general public. The actor stayed diplomatic but definitely voiced his support.

“Let me tell you, there’s a whole lot that stayed on the floor for ‘Suicide Squad,” Smith said. “I’m into it. I love that world. I love what was created in both versions. I absolutely would love to [see it].”

If you’re confused as to what the difference between David Ayer’s version and the one that was released is, it really all comes down to editing. According to reports (and Ayer, himself), the director was left out of the final edit of the film and the studio greatly changed the tone and story being told in “Suicide Squad” by hiring trailer editors to take over the final cut. Ayer has been very vocal about how much was cut and changed and how he doesn’t support the finished version that was released.

That said, as has been pointed out already, WB doesn’t seem remotely interested in revisiting the past of “Suicide Squad.” In fact, when the Snyder Cut was being released, WB execs even said there were no plans to even consider releasing a new cut of “Suicide Squad.” So, it would appear that not only an endorsement from Will Smith will make it happen.
