After the box office success of “Suicide Squad,” Warner Bros. is quickly trying to get those characters back on the big screen. Most people agree the standout character in the ‘Squad’ was Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn, and WB is well aware. It was recently revealed that WB is set to move forward on a Harley Quinn-focused spinoff film called “Gotham City Sirens.” However, another ‘Squad’ member is throwing his name around for at least a cameo.
Will Smith has told MTV International that if they do make the ‘Sirens’ spin-off, he’d be down to return. “I’d definitely love to be in it,” Smith said. “I love Margot Robbie, I would do, like, anything she wants to do.”
“Gotham City Sirens” is said to be based on a DC Comics series of the same name following the adventures of Harley Quinn, Catwoman, and Poison Ivy. Not a lot of information is known at this time, but David Ayer has been reported as the director for the project based on a script by Geneva Robertson-Dworet.
However, if Ayer and Robbie can’t find a place in the film for Will Smith, Deadshot is likely to be seen on the big screen soon enough. Reports are circulating that Warner Bros. is also working on a “Suicide Squad” sequel (obviously) and possibly a Deadshot spin-off. It makes sense as “Suicide Squad” was a financial success and Will Smith is still one of the bigger names in Hollywood. And after “Collateral Beauty” tanked this weekend, he perhaps knows he’ll have to play in the blockbuster space in a while before he’s afforded any more awards season movies. Moreover, Smith clearly likes working with Robbie, having also previously teamed with her on “Focus.”
No release date has been set, but WB is putting “Gotham City Sirens” on the fast track. [via EW]
