Considering the movie comes out in about three months, Fox decided they should probably start letting people know it's happening. And thus, the marketing department has slapped together a poster that looks like it was an outtake from the photo sessions for the "Contraband" one sheet. Welcome to "Broken City."
But bad design aside, this does at least seem like a promising project. The Allen Hughes-directed thriller follows Billy Taggart (Wahlberg), an ex-cop thrown off the force after shooting a 16-year-old kid. Eight years on, he’s working as a private detective and is hired by the colorful incumbent (Russell Crowe) in the New York mayoral race to investigate his wife’s (Catherine Zeta-Jones) infidelity. Taggart, however, digs up much, much more, including a shady real estate deal that points to city corruption. Shades of "Chinatown"? Perhaps, but with a sure-to-be pulsating score provided by "The Social Network" and "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" co-composer Atticus Ross, we' definitely hoping this one has a bit more beneath the surface.
And while the January 18, 2013 (January 25th in the U.K.) date would normally give us pause, but Wahlberg and Universal have shown they know how to make the winter frame work for them, as they had number one hits this year with "Contraband" and "Safe House" in that slot. So Fox is likely hoping they can do the same. Check out the poster and one new image below. [IMDB/HeyUGuys]
