Will Vincent Cassel Fall Under Danny Boyle's 'Trance'?

It’s an offer story! So don’t put too much in this yet as it just means some phone calls are being made and not much else. But still, when it comes something like Danny Boyle‘s forthcoming “Trance,” we suppose we’ll have to take updates where we can.

First a bit of history: Michael Fassbender was first attached in May to the film about an employee of an auction house who recruits a gang for a heist, only to wake with amnesia and forget the location of the stolen painting, leading to the suspicious thieves bringing in a hypnotist. Fassbender was in talks for the leader of the robbers, with James McAvoy following and lined up to play the amnesiac. Unfortunately, due to scheduling conflicts, Fassbender dropped out and while Colin Firth was said to be a desired replacement, an offer has been floated to someone else entirely. Twitch reveals that none other than Vincent Cassel has been given to the chance to RSVP for the role.

Fans of foreign cinema already know how awesome Cassel is but to North American auds, the actor is best known for playing Francois in “Ocean’s Twelve” and “Ocean’s Thirteen” as well as being Natalie Portman‘s demanding dance director in “Black Swan.” The choice is undeniably a great one but whether or not it pans out remains to be seen. There has also been no word on the female lead with Scarlett Johansson, Zoe Saldana and Mélanie Thierry all listed as contenders over the July 4th holiday weekend, but we’re sure news will come soon enough.

As exciting as the movie sounds, it will be a bit of a ways off. The plan is for Boyle to start filming in September, and then the rushes will be put on ice as the director focuses on his London Olympics duties. Then in August 2012 he will go back to the film and start editing for a release in early 2013.
