Will Willem Dafoe Take A Role In Lars Von Trier's 'The Nymphomaniac'?

Lars Von Trier is racking up the phone bills these days. Over the weekend it was revealed that the troublemaking filmmaker offered Stellan Skarsgard a role in his upcoming arthouse porno thingy “The Nymphomaniac.” Sorry ladies, should he take the role, Stellan won’t be banging anybody in the film, of which details are scarce other than the fact that it will center on “the erotic life of a woman from the age of zero to the age of 50.” But it appears the director has put in another call to another recent collaborator.

Speaking with C7nema in Venice where he’s stumping for Abel Ferrara‘s “4:44 Last Day On Earth,” Willem Dafoe, who has appeared in “Manderlay” and “Antichrist,” said that he too has received a call from Von Trier. However, Dafoe is taking his time to decide, telling the site he “will only make a decision after the [press for] ‘4.44’ is over.”

Of course, no word yet on what his role will be, but hopefully it will be more pleasurable than what happened to his penis in “Antichrist.” Maybe Lars is making it up to the guy who had to ejaculate blood the last time he visited a Von Trier set?

Taking a philosophical approach, LVT cites Thomas Mann‘s “Buddenbrooks” and Marcel Proust‘s “In Search Of Lost Time” (let’s see you make funny porno names out of those books!) as inspirations for his upcoming film while teasing that chapters in the movie will bear such titles as “The Western and Eastern Church” and “The Little Organ School.” This will certainly be the brainiest skin flick we’ve ever seen. And even though Lars is currently deep in “research” mode for the film, it appears he’s getting an early start on casting as shooting isn’t set to begin until next summer. But the bigger question remains: who does Lars have in mind for his titular lead? The part will certainly be demanding in some unique ways and lord knows what LVT will be bring to a film about hardcore sex, but we’re guessing a complete unknown or perhaps a porno star proper will be getting the next phone call. Sasha Grey may want to keep her phone nearby.

For now, you can check out Von Trier’s depression porno “Melancholia” when it goes VOD on October 7th or wait for the big screen experience on November 11th when it gets a limited release (tee hee).
