This one’s got love, sex and porn. What more could you want? Joseph Gordon-Levitt is a triple threat. Writer, director, actor, you could even go quintuple or more if you counted his growing entrepreneurial multi-media empire hitRecord and his seemingly innate ability to sing and dance. Having made many shorts for his aforementioned company, Gordon-Levitt directed his first feature-length effort earlier this year and it premiered to rave reviews at Sundance. Titled “Don Jon,” the movie co-stars Scarlett Johansson, Julianne Moore, Tony Danza and Brie Larson and centers on a New Jersey lothario (JGL) who develops unrealistic expectations from watching porn and then has to work at finding happiness and intimacy with his potential true love.
Our own critic on the ground at Sundance described it as an preternaturally assured directorial debut: “a beguiling romantic comedy with a heart, soul and pulse that will pleasure you for a full 90 minutes with hardly breaking a sweat.” So, do you want to see it early? If you’re in New York (Brooklyn to be specific), Los Angeles or Boston, we’ve got a treat for you.
Next Tuesday and Wednesday, August 27th and 28th, we’ll be co-presenting advance screenings of the film in your fair city. How do you win a pair of tickets? Follow us on Twitter, Facebook and email us with your name and tell us your favorite movie by an actor-turned-director (check our our recent feature if you need some assistance). Good luck! And remember, you must live in either New York, Los Angeles or Boston to be able to attend the various screenings next week.
