From bullet curving assassins to presidential vampire hunters, Timur Bekmambetov has covered a wide range of novelty characters. The director, who got his big break with the fantasy-themed “Night Watch” series, has never been the type to shy away from an outlandish idea. That’s why it’s not a huge surprise that he’s teaming up with SyFy, the house built from outlandish ideas.
The network, who has already produced a number of “Wizard of Oz” adaptations, is working with Bekmambetov to create a mini-series entitled “Warriors of Oz.” Deadline broke the news yesterday and revealed that the story will follow a “a warrior from present day Earth [who] is transported to a post-apocalyptic future Oz where he must team up with three other warriors, Heartless, Brainless, and Coward, in order to defeat the evil Wizard who has enslaved the land.”
The idea comes from Bekmambetov who will serve as an executive producer and possibly direct the mini-series. The network is currently searching for a writer who can flesh out the idea into a full script. Here’s hoping the “Sharknado” guys get a crack at it.
