Wolfgang Petersen To Direct Remake Of German Bank Robbery Pic

Vier gegen die Bank Wolfgang PetersenWow, it’s hard to believe that it’s been nearly a decade since we’ve had a film from Wolfgang Petersen. The director, who was once Hollywood’s go to blockbuster filmmaker, flopped hard in 2006 with "Poseidon," and hasn’t been heard from since. But he’s now gearing up to mount his first German language film since his breakout "Das Boot."

Screen Daily reports that Petersen will helm a redo of the 1976 German TV movie "Vier gegen die Bank," which was based on Ralph Maloney’s 1972 novel "The Nixon Recession Caper." The story revolves around four men who decide to solve their financial woes by robbing a bank. Here’s the book synopsis:

Four men of substance, all living the glossy life of Connecticut exurbanites, suddenly find themselves jobless and moneyless. What to do? Since it’s a bigger disgrace to be broke in this town than to be crooked, the obvious solution is to rob a bank.

Til Schweiger, Matthias Schweighofer, Michael ‘Bully’ Herbig and Jan Josef Liefers have been lined up to star, and while there’s no word yet on when production will begin, it’s nice to see Petersen back in action.
