When it was reported recently that Mickey Rourke bailed on "Seven Psychopaths" from "In Bruges" director Martin McDonagh, calling him a "jerkoff" as a parting show, a couple commenters on the site suggested Woody Harrelson as a replacement. Seems like somebody has been listening.
Harrelson has indeed replaced Rourke in the film, with Tom Waits and Olga Kurylenko coming along as well. So why has the replacement come so quickly? Well, production begins this week in Los Angeles for the tale of Billy (Sam Rockwell), an unemployed actor and part time dog thief who wants to help his best friend, struggling screenwriting friend Marty (Colin Farrell), by any means necessary. He teams with Hans (Christopher Walken) and together they steal the beloved Shih Tzu of Charlie (Harrelson), who then goes on the hunt to find out who took his beloved pet.
While it's not yet known what role he'll be playing, the film will mark Waits' first big screen appearance since "The Book of Eli" (and oh yeah, he has a new album out, Bad As Me, which you shoud go and buy right now). For Kurylenko, it's another intriguing film from the model/actress who has jumped from "Quantum of Solace" to working with Terrence Malick in recent years. Either way, the cast that has come together for this is pretty damn awesome.
CBS Films is backing the picture, which we presume (fingers crossed) will arrive sometime in the latter part of 2012. [Deadline]
