Despite the title, “The Worst Person in the World” isn’t, in fact, about the literal worst person on the planet. There are people in the world way worse than the character of Julie in Joachim Trier’s new film. But nevertheless, sometimes everyone thinks they hold the title at some point during their life.
As seen in the trailer for “The Worst Person in the World,” the film follows the story of Julie, a young woman in Oslo who is going through a really tough time in her life. ‘Worst Person’ documents four years in the life of Julie, as she navigates a tumultuous love life, a blossoming career, and much more. As mentioned, “The Worst Person in the World” is directed by Joachim Trier, who co-wrote the script alongside Eskil Vogt. The film stars Renate Reinsve in the lead role. She wowed audiences when the film debuted at Cannes this year and took home the Best Actress award from the event.
In our review of the film from Cannes, we said, “‘The Worst Person in the World’ is giddy and joyful and oftentimes hilarious (which could come as a pleasant surprise considering Trier’s most recent films, though you cannot forget the similar electric exuberance of his debut, ‘Reprise’), culminating in a pathos-filled finale that makes you realize how much you’ve fallen in love with every character.”
