So, you might remember that a couple of years ago it was revealed that "Precious" director Lee Daniels was attached to direct a remake of Federico Fellini's classic "Nights Of Cabiria." Well, thankfully, that never came to pass, but guess what, this car crash of a bad idea is still happening.
Let's just run this down in the easiest way possible: instead of Giulietta Masina? We're going to get Juliette Lewis. Instead of Fellini? How about Brad Michael Gilbert, the producer behind "The Loss Of A Teardrop Diamond" and uh, "After.Life" that movie with Liam Neeson and Christina Ricci. Making his feature debut, no less. And instead of Nino Rota's masterful score? God knows, who they'll get to score this thing.
What else can we say about this? Oh, it's now going to be called "The Days Of Mary" which might be the most bland title to ever give a movie about a naive prostitute, who is betrayed by the men in her life in Rome. And we presume they'll relocate the story to some American metropolis and basically, lose everything that made Fellini's original one of his best, and an Oscar winner to boot.
Okay, we're gonna stop here because we're about to have an aneurysm. What's next? "La Strada" starring Dwayne Johnson and Carly Rae Jepsen? Hopefully buyers in Cannes will know better than to get involved with this. [THR]
