A new day has dawned, and “X-Men: Dark Phoenix” may be one of last of the Fox-era mutant movies to hit the big screen. The future of the X-Men remains a huge question as Disney takes ownership of the characters. Will lower and mid-budget riffs on the material like the upcoming “New Mutants” fit into the business model of the mouse house? Will Disney still push forward with “Gambit“? What’s been made clear is that the days of Simon Kinberg, longtime X-Men producer who has guided the series, are numbered (ironically, after his directorial debut on ‘Dark Phoenix’).

So, it’ll be interesting to see how the movie plays out, and whether it will mark the complete close of the X-Men saga as we’ve know it so far….or will keep the door open. For now, we’ll just have study these new pics, featuring Michael Fassbender, Jessica Chastain and James McAvoy, for clues. One thing is clear, it seems — Magneto isn’t going to have it easy. Meanwhile, Sophie Turner says that the film is about the age old themes of “darkness and light.”
