'X-Men Origins: Wolverine' Trailer

We liked the “X-Men” series much more than you’d probably expect. “X-Men 2” in particular was really great and one of the best comic book films there were, but we’re not particularly excited, enthused or interested in “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” for whatever reason. However there are some reasons to be mildly or tentatively curious. Number 1 is director Gavin Hood who directed the very good 2005 South African film, “Tsotsi.” The cast includes Hugh Jackman, Liev Schreiber, Dominic Monaghan, Taylor Kitsch, and Danny Huston.

Also, we’re sure Wolverine’s origin was revealed in the comic books years after we grew up and stopped reading them, but we we were always opposed to it. Never reveal the origins of a mysterious character or a legend, it always dilutes the character. It’s kind of like Star Wars and the prequels. Not only did Lucas ruin the myth of it all by revealing the banal backstory, he ruined the myth of The Force, reducing it to some retarded science logic that was right out of “Star Trek.” Why people haven’t figured this out yet and can’t leave myths and special origins alone, is beyond us. Ryan Reynolds looks funny in this too.We can’t say it has changed our minds at all. The film comes out May 1, 2009 and is probably high on thrills, but as for plot, drama and story, well the jury is out, but it’s more than likely enough for the geeks who don’t really have the highest demands in those areas.
