A network or streaming platform canceling a series isn’t all that shocking. This situation happens all the time in the TV industry. However, what’s unique about “Y: The Last Man” being canceled by FX is that the announcement comes midway through the first season, which still has three more episodes left. While that might seem like a death blow that will surely mean the rest of the story will never be told, ‘Y’ showrunner, Eliza Clark, is vowing to fans that she will do everything to find a new home for the series.
Over the weekend, it was announced by series showrunner Eliza Clark that FX would not be moving forward with Season 2 of “Y: The Last Man.” The series is based on the acclaimed comic book series about a deadly pandemic that wipes out everyone with a Y-chromosome on the face of Earth. Well, everyone but a young guy named Yorick. The comic series ran for 60 issues and is an expansive story that definitely isn’t getting wrapped up by the end of Season 1. And because of this, Clark is saddened by the news from FX, but she also is actively working on getting “Y: The Last Man” a new home.
“I have never in my life been more committed to a story, and there’s so much more to tell,” Clark wrote on social media.
“FX has been an amazing partner,” she added. “But we know that someone else is going to be very lucky to have this team and this story. I have never experienced the remarkable solidarity of this many talented people. We are committed to finding ‘Y’ its next home.”
It’s unclear, at this time, if there is a lot of interest from other studios for “Y: The Last Man.” Before this series was launched, the adaptation had been bouncing around Hollywood quite a bit, first as a feature film, then as a series. We’ll just have to wait and see if that interest still exists to continue the story that Clark and her team had already started.
