It’s been nearly a month since the National Day of Patriotic Devotion, and the nation still can’t believe that the host of “The Apprentice” is the President of the country. Even while many worry about the current state of the affairs with Donald Trump behind the desk at the Oval Office, many are also looking back across the past year or so and wondering where the hell it all went wrong. But it looks like we might get our most interesting viewpoint yet from a pair who have not shied away from potent subject matter.
Screenwriter Mark Boal and producer Megan Ellison are gearing up a limited series about the 2016 presidential election. The duo have previously worked on “Zero Dark Thirty,” “Serial” season 2, and Kathryn Bigelow‘s upcoming Detroit riots movie, and this new project will see Boal scripting the series, with material pulled from research gathered by Hugo Lindgren, a former editor of the New York Times magazine, and a team of investigative journalists.
Boal is nothing if not thorough, and this should be a fascinating, possibly stomach-churning insight into every step of the 2016 election. There are no broadcasters signed up yet, but I can’t imagine it will be too difficult to find a partner, and while it might be “Too soon!” for some, Boal and Lindgren are smart in getting reflections on the past year while memories are still fresh and emotion is running high.
