For decades, there have been films about hard-partying friends that have to settle down as their adulthood looms. However, for most of those years, the two friends happened to be super attractive male stars. Well, in recent years, we’ve seen this trend start to dissipate, as many female-led “buddy comedies” have started to be released. And one of the most interesting examples of this is the upcoming film, “Animals.”
The story of “Animals” is fairly simple. A writer and her best friend love to party. They’re constantly out and about, drinking, having sex, and generally getting into some wild, but fun, situations. This all changes when the writer meets a guy and starts a serious relationship. Now, as she approaches her wedding, she has to figure out how to balance her upcoming status quo change, and somehow not lose her friendship with her partying BFF.

“Animals” is based on the novel of the same name from author Emma Jane Unsworth, who is also the person who adapted the book for the big screen. The film stars Holliday Grainger and Alia Shawkat in the lead roles, and judging by the trailer, these two should be the big reason why you want to see the film, as their chemistry is off the charts and they look to be having a blast. Sophie Hyde directed the comedy.
There’s no word on a North American release for the film, but “Animals” will be seen in the UK and Irish cinemas on August 2.
Here’s the synopsis:
Would-be writer Laura (Holliday Grainger) and her free-spirited bestie Tyler (Alia Shawkat) share a messy Dublin apartment and a hearty appetite for booze, Molly, and one-night stands. Yet when Laura falls for Jim (Fra Fee), a charming but straitlaced classical pianist, Tyler worries that the party may soon be over.
