Bryan Cranston Explains Why It's Unlikely He'll Show Up In The 'Breaking Bad' Sequel Film

So here’s what we know about the upcoming “Breaking Bad” movie that’s being written and directed by Vince Gilligan. It’s codename/working title is “Greenbrier.” The film follows Jesse Pinkman, with Aaron Paul reprising his Emmy-winning role, attempting to escape New Mexico after the events of the series finale. And even though he hasn’t read a script yet, Bryan Cranston, aka Walter White, is down to come back. The problem with that last bit is that the character is dead. Right?

For those that don’t remember the finale of “Breaking Bad,” Walter White goes to rescue Jesse from the clutches of some neo-Nazis attempting to replicate the famous version of meth that the duo created. There’s a gunfight, Jesse escapes, but Walter White appears to have suffered some critical wounds. However, it’s never explicitly shown that White dies, leading some speculation that Cranston could make a surprise appearance in the upcoming “Breaking Bad” sequel film.

Well, while there’s a chance that Cranston might show up in the film, he wants to stress that Walter White did, in fact, die at the end of the series. When he was recently asked on “Today” whether his character is dead, Cranston said, “Yes! What are they gonna show me on a slab or something? That’s not exciting.”

Of course, that being said, we know that Cranston has spoken to Gilligan about the sequel idea, and there’s always the chance that White could show up in a flashback or something. However, even then, the actor stresses that would be difficult to pull off considering he’s currently busy in a Broadway production of “Network.”

Cranston said, “I’d love to do a ‘Breaking Bad’ movie, but I’m doing Broadway now and that’s gonna go until March.”

“Greenbrier,” or whatever it’ll eventually be called, is scheduled to begin production this month and go until February. Sadly, that doesn’t leave much time for Cranston to show up. Now, perhaps they can shoot some additional scenes after “Network” wraps up? We’ll just have to wait and see.

There’s no release date for the “Breaking Bad” sequel film.
