Bryan Lee O'Malley Confirms 'Scott Pilgrim' Script Won't Contain Elements of Forthcoming Vol. 6; We Confirm Script Is A Departure From Vol 3-5

Still catching up on the catching up.

“Scott Pilgrim” creator Bryan Lee O’Malley has confirmed what some of us already know. Edgar Wright’s adaptation of “Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World” will not include any elements of his upcoming and final, Volume 6 in the Scott Pilgrim series.

How do we know this? We’ve already read the script and actually wrote about this a while ago. But yes, not only does the ‘Scott Pilgrim’ film not include what’s in the not-yet-released Volume 6, it actually departs quite a bit from the actual novels especially through Volumes 3-5, but this isn’t a bad thing.

We wrote in March, “We’ve read the script for ‘Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World,’ written by Michael Bacall (also an actor who has a small role in “Inglourious Basterds” as one of the Jewish-American soldiers; he also appeared in Tarantino’s “Death Proof”) and it’s significantly different, but very awesome, hilarious and very-much capturing the mood, tenor and tone of Bryan Lee O’Malley’s original books with necessary changes to keep the narrative propelling forward (we’ll get into that deeper soon), but never deviating wildly (Bacall was also named by Variety as one of the 2008 Screenwriters to watch).”

O’Malley wrote on Twitter, “None of Vol 6 is in the movie. Note that I haven’t finished writing it yet, but they’re already making a movie. Their ending is their ending.”

Even those who have read all the books, note, the ending of the screenplay is again, significantly different from what happens in Volume 5. “Scott Pilgrims Vs. The World,” we’re told by sources on the project is hopefully due in theaters summer of 2010.
