Chris Rock Hopes To Woo Melissa McCarthy For Upcoming Dysfunctional Marital Comedy

nullThe news on potential projects coalescing for the stars of this past summer’s breakout hit comedy “Bridesmaids” has been a steady stream as of late, though breakout star Melissa McCarthy seems to be the one amassing the most since her post-“Bridesmaids” fame. There’s the Seth Gordon-helmed comedy with Jason Bateman called “Identity Theft,” the R-Rated road movie “Tammy” she’s been trying to get off the ground, and the always looming potential of a “Bridesmaids Part Deux” to name just a few.

Well add another project to McCarthy’s potential slate, as it appears the comedian turned writer-director Chris Rock is looking to “romance her” as he tells 24 Frames. Promoting his Sundance flick “Two Days in New York” last week, Rock opened up about one of his potential future projects, in which he and McCarthy would play a dysfunctional married couple, or as Rock prefers it, a "Jerry Springer couple." It’s apparently one of a few projects Rock has in the queue, and he’s reached out to McCarthy regarding her coming aboard, though it seems the actor also has another project in the pipeline involving him playing a stand-up comedian.

While Rock’s career as a writer-director has been hit-or-miss, with the 2009 documentary “Good Hair” standing out as the best of the bunch thus far, the prospect of him and McCarthy certainly offers some promise. Though McCarthy’s schedule is probably chockfull with plenty of time set aside for shooting the abhorrent network television show “Mike & Molly,” along with her more promising feature projects, it would seem like it could be a while before this project would sprout any legs. Still, the thought of these two comedic minds pairing up could offer a potent blend, with both offering very distinct comedic styles and playing to two different audiences.
