It was way back in July 2018 when the controversy over decade-old tweets affected James Gunn and forced his dismissal from “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” by Disney. And even though we are 6 months out from the initial story, fans still aren’t any closer in knowing who might take over for the man who created the beloved Marvel franchise. But filmmakers Edgar Wright and Chris Miller have a suggestion for Disney – James Gunn.

When a Twitter user put out an open call to Disney, suggesting Edgar Wright, Phil Lord and Chris Miller, and Taika Waititi for the gig of directing ‘Guardians 3,’ two of those four gentlemen took it upon themselves to effectively remove their names from the conversation and voice their support for Gunn, in the process.
Replying to the initial tweet, Edgar Wright said, “I’d like to throw in this suggestion too: @JamesGunn.”
This was replied to, shortly after, by a tweet from one half of the famous Lord and Miller, Chris Miller, who tweeted, “He would be a good fit tonally.”

Obviously, these comments, at least Miller’s, are firmly in the tongue-in-cheek camp. However, it does seem to follow a trend that we’ve seen with the whole James Gunn debacle. Wright and Miller are hardly the first to stand behind the ousted director. Shortly after the decision was made by Disney to fire Gunn, practically the entire cast of the ‘Guardians’ franchise signed an open letter begging the studio to rehire the director. There is also an online petition and billboard begging Disney to do the same.
Alas, it would appear that the director has moved on in his career and firmly staked his claim on the upcoming “Suicide Squad 2” reboot-quel (or whatever it is) that he is currently writing, and most likely, directing.
And we’re still back at square one with the question on everyone’s mind, who is going to take over ‘Guardians 3?’ It would appear the list is becoming increasingly limited.
