Well before he synced a film to music with “Baby Driver,” Edgar Wright has been one of the foremost filmmakers unafraid of putting an iconic needle drop in his movie. Whether it’s Queen in “Shaun of the Dead” or all the music in “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World,” the writer-director is always down to showcase a song where he sees fit. And so, it’s no surprise that Wright also is one of the few filmmakers to release an annual Best Songs list.

As we did last year, we are taking this time to take a break from films and TV for a moment to highlight some music that was released in 2019. And we’re doing this by showcasing Edgar Wright’s Spotify playlist that he’s created for the Best Songs of 2019. And while there’s no mention of a ranking or reason for putting the songs in the order they’re in, Wright has included 50 songs for fans to enjoy.

In addition to his more off-the-beaten-path choices, the filmmaker does enjoy a bit of Top 40 pop. He includes what might be one of the biggest songs of 2019, “Bad Guy” from Billie Eilish, in his list, as well as songs from popular artists like Haim, Beck, FKA Twigs, and Tove Lo.
