Fantastical Serge Gainsbourg Biopic Gets Picked Up, Sean Penn Teams With Paolo Sorrentino, Denzel Washington's 'Brother In Arms' Set For Rewrite

“Je t’Aime Moi Non Plus,” a biopic for French artist Serge Gainsbourg has been picked up for distribution across Europe. The film, which is directed by comic book artist Joann Sfar, will be more of a fantasy than a biopic and will feature animated creatures, crafted by the “Pan’s Labyrinth” designers, which will symbolize the spirit and imagination of Gainsbourg. On the other end of the spectrum, Peter Berg is in talks to direct a film based on the popular Hasbro board game “Battleship.” Though plot details are being kept under wraps, we’re betting on some sort of epic naval battle. Sean Penn is in negotiations to star in “This Must Be The Place,” the English language debut for Paolo Sorrentino. Camilla Belle and Tom Wilkinson are set to join the Halycon Company’s English remake of Susanna Bier’s “After The Wedding.” Michael Caton-Jones will helm the project that follows a expatriate social worker running a Mumbai orphanage who receives a mysterious multimillion-dollar donation from a Western businessman. Matthew Sand has been tapped to rewrite “Brothers In Arms;” Denzel Washington will produce and direct. The film is based on a book co-written by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and follows the story of the only black U.S. tank unit to fight in the European theater during World War II and how the unit overcame prejudice to prove themselves on the battlefield by spearheading the Allied Forces. Forest Whitaker, America Ferrera and Carlos Mencia are set to star in an untitled family wedding project for Fox Searchlight. Helmed by Rick Famuyiwa, the story is described as a clash-of-cultures comedy centering on two overbearing fathers, played by Whitaker and Mencia, who put differences aside to organize their childrens’ wedding in less than two weeks. “My Big Fat [Insert Nationality] Wedding”? Milla Jovovich has signed on to star alongside Robert De Niro and Edward Norton in John Curran’s psychological thriller “Stone.” The story will follows a convicted arsonist’s (Norton) intricate plan for his wife (Jovovich) to engage in a dangerous affair with his parole officer (De Niro) that results in a series of deadly psychological games.
