'Father Figures' Trailer: Owen Wilson & Ed Helms Are Brothers

Father Figures” is another addition to the stable of raunchy studio comedies that made stars Owen Wilson and Ed Helms’ names, and caps off a year wherein Wilson is also looking for awards recognition in the weepie “Wonder.”

A new trailer has arrived for the Warner Bros. comedy which marks the directorial debut of “The Hangover” cinematographer Lawrence Sher — here’s hoping that this film can recapture some of that first film’s gonzo charm and less of the seedy and misogynist humor of the following films in that franchise. “Father Figures” follows brothers Kyle and Peter Reynolds attempting to sift through the trail of their mother’s ex-lovers from her Studio 54 days to determine who their real biological father is. With the presence of Wilson and Helms, one lives in hope of a return to the halcyon era of hilarious Frat Pack comedies from the 00’s. Here’s the official synopsis:

Wilson and Helms are Kyle and Peter Reynolds, brothers whose eccentric mother raised them to believe their father had died when they were young.  When they discover this to be a lie, they set out together to find their real father, and end up learning more about their mother than they probably ever wanted to know.

The film has appropriately lined up an impressive supporting cast of potential father figures alongside Glenn Close as the promiscuous mother: J.K. Simmons, Christopher Walken, Harry Shearer  and – bizarrely – Terry Bradshaw appearing as himself. Beyond these daddy candidates, Ving Rhames, Katt Williams, June Squibb, Retta and Katie Aselton will be ably lending their support.

“Father Figures” was penned by Justin Malen, and is produced by Ivan Reitman, Ali Bell, Broderick Johnson and Andrew A. Kosove. The film opens on December 22nd.
