The latest issue of Entertainment Weekly (not yet online) has posted the first images from the latest “Toy Story” installment, a short called “Hawaiian Vacation.” As we told you recently, despite seemingly wrapping up the series with a perfect third installment, Pixar have decided to continue the adventures of Woody and Buzz in a series of shorts. The first of which, ‘Vacation’ will be released in front of “Cars 2” starting June 24 and the second as-yet-unknown short to premiere before Disney’s “The Muppets” this December.
The short’s director (and former sound designer) Gary Rydstrom, who also made the Pixar short “Lifted,” said of the short, “Woody becomes kind of like what’s-his-name on “Love Boat”…Captain Stubing!” While that reference is going to fly right over kids’ heads, he also elaborates vaguely on the story. “As toys who get played with all the time, they have a pretty good imagination, when it’s time for a little playacting, they’re good at it.” As for the images, it looks like all of our favorite toys are back and we’re sure they will try to find a way to wring some tears out of us during their brief few minutes onscreen. If anyone can do it, Pixar can. You can check out the second image below and we’ll update the images when EW posts them online.
