Ridley Scott once said that education for his kids was bringing them to set, giving them commercials to make and teaching them the family trade. He wasn’t kidding. There are three Scott kids, Jake, Jordan and Luke and they are all filmmakers. The latter sibling, Luke is making his feature-length directorial debut with “Morgan,” a suspense-horror starring Kate Mara.
Written by Seth Owen (“The Runaround”), the movie has carefully tried to hide its true secrets and reveals which is arguably a bonus in an era of spoil-the-movie-with-spoilers marketing. Here’s the official synopsis:
A corporate troubleshooter (Kate Mara) is sent to a remote, top-secret location, where she is to investigate and evaluate a terrifying accident. She learns the event was triggered by a seemingly innocent “human,” who presents a mystery of both infinite promise and incalculable danger.
Produced by Ridley Scott, (natch), there’s a top-notch cast to his one beyond the talented Mara including Anya Taylor-Joy, Toby Jones, Rose Leslie, Boyd Holbrook, Michelle Yeoh, Jennifer Jason Leigh, and Paul Giamatti. A Labor Day weekend release date doesn’t inspire a ton of confidence, given that’s normally one of the worst box office weekends of the year, but maybe Fox think they have something special on their hands — there’s definitely the shape of an “Ex Machina“-style sleeper here, potentially. Watch the trailer below, and you can check the film out in whole when it opens September 2nd.
