Director Adam Wingard (“The Guest“) is a busy fella with projects like a “ThunderCats” movie and “Face/Off” sequel on the horizon, among others. His next big outing will be Legendary‘s follow-up to the hit Monsterverse film “Godzilla vs. Kong” and he’s added a familiar face to the cast.
A report from Deadline has revealed that British actor Dan Stevens (“Legion“) has been hired for a role in “Godzilla vs. Kong 2” as the first new addition to the sequel that is poised to begin shooting this summer in Australia. However, it’s unclear if folks like Alexander Skarsgård, Rebecca Ferguson, Millie Bobby Brown, and others will be returning as they’re not being mentioned in the new report.
“Godzilla vs. Kong 2” is expected to further explore the Hollow Earth and may reveal new titans/creatures that are living in that undiscovered region, possibly more species similar to the two juggernauts might be uncovered. We’re still waiting on concrete plot details though.
While not official, there had been rumblings when the sequel was announced that it may take cues from 1933’s “Son of Kong” and could introduce a version of King Kong’s son, Kiko. On the Godzilla side of things, the franchise has used aliens in the past that could eventually show up in these films and the “King of Monsters” also has his own son of sorts that could be mined.
Legendary and Apple TV+ have also teamed up for a live-action Monarch-focused series helping to further flesh out the Monsterverse beyond the massive event films.
Wingard had recently teased interest in having Stevens return for a sequel film or series of their sci-fi action hybrid film “The Guest.”
