We don't see Kim Basinger up on the big screen all that often anymore. In fact, it was two years ago that she last popped up in the Zac Efron vehicle "Charlie St. Cloud." Before that movie was another two year gap, with 2008 seeing her in three pictures: "The Burning Plain," "The Informers" and something called "While She Was Out." But the actress is coming out of the woodwork once again, for a movie that will likely be more worth her time than most of her recent resume.
Basinger has come aboard the solid ensemble of Paul Haggis' next film, "Third Person," joining Liam Neeson, Olivia Wilde, Mila Kunis, Adrien Brody, Casey Affleck and James Franco in the picture. She'll be playing the wife of Neeson's character who is a writer of some kind. She then gets taken in Budapest….oh wait, wrong movie. While the plot details have been kept guarded for some time, it was just last week they fully emerged thanks to some sales material that went out (via ComingSoon). So read on:
(Paris) Michael, a writer who recently left his wife, receives a visit from his lover Anna. The story explores their very complicated on/off relationship due to her inability to commit because of a terrible secret.
(New York) Julia has recently been charged with attempting to kill her son, a charge which she firmly denies. As a result of these charges, her son is now in the custody of his father Rick who's trying everything in his power to take the boy away from her. Julia is trying at all costs to regain custody of her son.
(Rome) Sean, an American business man on a trip to Italy, falls in love with an Italian woman, Monica. Sean is inevitably drawn into a plot where he tries to free Monica's daughter who has been kidnapped by an Italian gangster and is being held for ransom. Emotions run high as we and Sean question whether this is a set up or not.
So an international "Crash" then? We'll find out soon enough. Filming gets underway this fall, and a 2013 release — or appearance on the festival circuit — is probably a no brainer. [THR]
