Luca Guadagnino has played quite a bit in various forms of visual storytelling. Obviously, most people know the filmmaker from his features, such as “Call Me By Your Name,” but he’s also done documentaries, shorts, and even a TV series, with HBO’s “We Are Who We Are,” which debuted last year. And now, the filmmaker can check music video off of his career to-do list.

As seen with the new music video for the song, “Tell Me You Love Me,” Luca Guadagnino collaborated with Alessio Bolzoni and Celia Hempton to direct the latest Sufjan Stevens clip. And if the name Sufjan Stevens comes to mind, you’re either a fan of the acclaimed musician or perhaps you remember that he and Guadagnino previously worked together on an Oscar-nominated original song for the aforementioned “Call Me By Your Name.”
Those hoping for more Armie Hammer and Timothée Chalamet in the Stevens music video are out of luck. Instead, the video features various performers writhing around on the ground as the song plays. There are then interstitial moments where paintings, lights, and a wintery landscape are juxtaposed with the dancing. It’s a beautiful video that definitely fits the ethereal sound of the song.
Of course, film fans shouldn’t be too concerned that Guadagnino is going to shun his film career and become a full-time music video director. He has already lined up multiple projects that will keep him working in features for a long time to come, including the already-announced “Lord of the Flies” and “Scarface” remakes. He’s also set to direct Chalamet and newcomer Taylor Russell in a new feature, titled “Bones & All.”
