You might remember a while ago that Oscar-winning director Guillermo del Toro (“The Shape of Water“) would be teaming with streaming giant Netflix for a horror anthology series formerly titled “10 After Midnight,” and would have a wave of hand-selected directors shooting various episodes including del Toro and Aussie director Jennifer Kent (“The Babadook“).

Netflix has announced that the show has been renamed “Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities” alongside naming the rest of the directing team and cast members. An overwhelming information dump on what could quickly become one of the more anticipated new Netflix shows currently filming in Toronto.
Joining del Toro and Kent will be joined by David Prior (“The Empty Man“), veteran cinematographer turned director Guillermo Navarro (“The Godfather of Harlem,” “Hannibal,” “Narcos“), Panos Cosmatos (“Mandy,” “Beyond The Black Rainbow“), Vincenzo Natali (“Cube,” “Splice,” “The Strain“), Ana Lily Amirpour (“The Bad Batch“), Catherine Hardwicke (“Twilight,” “Miss Bala“), and Keith Thomas (“Firestarter“).
I first reported on Prior and Navarro’s joining the horror series over the summer at The Ronin.
Panos Cosmatos, Jennifer Kent, and Vincenzo Natali will also write their episodes alongside a writing team that consists of Guillermo del Toro, Haley Z. Boston, Regina Corrado, David S. Goyer, Lee Patterson, Aaron Stewart-Ahn, and Mika Watkins.
It will act as a small “Blade II” reunion as del Toro and Goyer previously worked together on the first Marvel Comics film to land a sequel that was released a year before “X-Men 2.”
An electric collection of genre actors have been added to the cast, such as Essie Davis, Luke Roberts, Andrew Lincoln, F. Murray Abraham, Glynn Turman, Ben Barnes, Elpidia Carrillo, Hannah Galway, Crispin Glover, Demetrius Grosse, David Hewlett, Tim Blake Nelson, Sebastian Roché, and Peter Weller.
Everyone knows how much of a horror junkie del Toro is, but “Cabinet of Curiosities” feels like it could help evolve the genre to something of a high-end collaborative effort.
The filmmaker’s next feature film will be “Nightmare Alley,” releasing in December, and he also co-directed a stop-motion “Pinocchio” movie for Netflix as well.
