With Oscar season coming in full swing right after the craziness that is the holiday movie season, you may not even realize that it’s now January and, at the moment, Hollywood’s current slate of releases is…kinda lame. Thankfully, Entertainment Weekly’s 2013 preview has given us a chance to get a good look at some of Hollywood’s biggest summer movies.
First up, we get to see Iron Man cozying up next to Pepper Potts. “Iron Man 3” will be Marvel’s first film since the hugely successful “The Avengers” and it will be interesting to see what co-writer/director Shane Black can bring to the table after Jon Favreau decided to step back into the role of executive producer. The addition of Guy Pearce and Ben Kingsley to the cast of Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, and Don Cheadle will hopefully spice things up a little bit as well. “Iron Man 3” opens everywhere May 3rd.
Next, there’s the unbelievably ripped Hugh Jackman as the title character in “The Wolverine.” Anticipation for “The Wolverine” may have been a bit muted for some when Darren Aronofsky dropped out early on for his own passion project, “Noah.” Then again, the hiring of James Mangold and critical and financial success for ”X-Men: First Class” should bring back some excitement over the film, despite the unenthusiastic response to “X-Men Origins: Wolverine.” “The Wolverine” comes out on July 26th.
Lastly, we have Superman being taken away in handcuffs. “Man of Steel” is perhaps the one blockbuster this summer that is the most anticipated as well as the one with the most question marks surrounding it. Can Zack Snyder possibly do the superhero justice? How will Christopher Nolan’s involvement affect the film? One thing is for sure, “Men of Steel” has got a pretty solid cast: Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Michael Shannon, Russell Crowe, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane and Christopher Meloni. “Man of Steel” comes out on June 14th.
