While we're still a few weeks away from the Cannes Film Festival unveiling their lineup, one movie you can expect somewhere in that announcement is "Laurence Anyways," the latest from French Canadian wunderkind Xavier Dolan.
Last week we got the effortlessly gorgeous trailer from the young filmmaker, and as the movie gears up for a spring release in Canada, a brand new poster has arrived. Starring Melvil Poupad, Nathalie Baye, Suzanne Clement and Monia Chokri, his latest is set in 1989, and centers on Laurence (Poupaud) who reveals on his 30th birthday his secret desire of becoming a woman. His girlfriend is shocked, but agrees to stay by his side, and the next year Laurence goes back to working as a professor where he teaches literature — only this time as a woman. As his new life begins, Laurence faces the challenges of the social stigma, family rejection and the strain on his relationship that his transformation brings. But this poster shows the couple presumably in earlier, more amorous times.
No release date yet for "Laurence Anyways," but it will land in Canadian cinemas in May. No U.S. distribution has been lined up, but that will likely change at Cannes. [NicoFilmosphere]
