Rolling Stone critic Peter Travers really likes the movies. Even movies he doesn’t like so much, he always has something enthusiastic to say, so much so that Hollywood studios just love going to the man for pull quotes to use in their marketing campaigns. As eFilmCritic exhaustively breaks down, Travers has a handful of choice adjectives and phrases he likes to recycle year in and year out, and for some movies, the quotes attributed to him aren’t even found in his print reviews. All told, advertising for 60 movies this year featured quotes from Travers — more than double of any other critic. But his job title is still Film Critic, and as such, he’s dropped his top ten movies of the year, and we’ll give the man his due: it’s a pretty decent list.
Granted, you’re not going to find any foreign films on here, or little tiny indies you haven’t heard about since Sundance, but Travers does get some cred for putting "Under The Skin" on his list. And as he points out, Christopher Nolan‘s "Interstellar" is the only "epic" that cracked the ten, while prestige flicks dominate with "Boyhood," "Foxcatcher," "Selma," and "Unbroken" filling things out, and the pulpy "Gone Girl" and whimsical "The Grand Budapest Hotel" also finding slots.
So check out his full top ten below. What will 2015 bring from Travers? Probably more quotes.
