Rumor: Spider-Man Will Appear In Marvel's 'Avengers: Infinity War - Part 1'

Spider-Man, Avengers: Infinity WarMAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD: One of the more intriguing details to leak out of the Sony hacks was the intel that Sony and Marvel had discussions about the former loaning out Spider-Man to the latter so that the character could appear in "Captain America: Civil War." The deal specific to that film didn’t work out but the door wasn’t closed, and the two studios were reportedly set to meet this month to talk about the future of Spider-Man again. And it looks like comic book fans are going to shoot some major webs.

Latino Review is reporting that an agreement has been reached and Spider-Man, instead of appearing in ‘Civil War,’ will now swing into "Avengers: Infinity War Part 1." This is where the spoilers come into play. First, ‘Civil War’ will conclude with Steve Rogers being killed by Crossbones. "Thor: Ragnarok" will find our titular hero imprisoned, and Iron Man’s future post-‘Civil War’ is in question, so essentially this leaves a lot of room for Spider-Man to join the Avengers. This scenario posits a new ‘Avengers’ lineup after this year’s film, with Spider-Man in the mix in some capacity. But there’s a few things to think about.

According to previous reports, one of the stumbling blocks to the deal was how much creative control Sony was asking for, so presumably that hurdle has been overcome. It’s also unclear if Andrew Garfield will continue in the role, or if Marvel will recast to keep the two cinematic universes separate (that seems the most likely outcome). Also, there’s no mention of ‘Infinity War Part 2,’ so would Peter Parker be just one a time ally? And finally, will this be too much Spidey? This would be the third wall-crawler within sixteen years and a true test of the worldwide appetite for rebooting/retooling.

But what do you think? Smart move by Marvel? Or is their cinematic universe starting to look a little too crowded? Let us know below.
