Earlier today, we shared the first five minutes of the new series, “The Man Who Fell to Earth.” That series, much like the new “Swimming with Sharks,” is an example of Hollywood dusting off an old property and giving it a nice, new coat of paint. It’s a trend that seems to be continuing with no end in sight. But at least with “Swimming with Sharks,” the update looks very interesting, indeed.
As seen in the trailer for “Swimming with Sharks,” the series tells the story of a young woman who is interning at a major Hollywood studio. While there, she becomes enamored with the hot-tempered CEO, Joyce Holt. And as the young woman begins her career in Hollywood, she’s willing to do anything to get closer to her idol.
“Swimming with Sharks” stars Kiernan Shipka, Diane Kruger, Donald Sutherland, Thomas Dekker, Finn Jones, Erika Alexander, Ross Butler, and Gerardo Celasco. The series is written by showrunner Kathleen Robertson and directed by Tucker Gates. The filmmaker is a veteran of TV, having worked on a number of high-profile shows. Most recently, Gates directed episodes of “The Morning Show,” “The Stand,” “Homeland,” and “Ray Donovan.”
“Swimming with Sharks” debuts at this year’s SXSW Film Festival, with the series hitting The Roku Channel on April 15. You can watch the trailer below.
Here’s the synopsis:
When Lou Simms (Kiernan Shipka) starts her internship at Fountain Pictures she seems like a naïve Hollywood newcomer, awestruck by the studio’s notorious CEO, Joyce Holt (Diane Kruger). In truth, Lou has done extensive research on Joyce and landing this internship was no happy accident. As Lou’s obsession grows, she will do anything to get close to her idol.
