Netflix releases a wide variety of series, ranging from drama to comedy. Their dips into fantasy and science fiction have had some success, but little near the likes of a “Game of Thrones.” They do have a show in its second season that somewhat approaches that level. Lauren Schmidt Hissrich’s “The Witcher” returns for more high-budget, dramatic thrills in The Continent. This series sat at the top of Netflix’s throne in terms of viewership before falling. Hissrich’s series did not please everyone, but “The Witcher” has a second season to deepen its lore and keep building its fanbase.
Henry Cavill, Freya Allan, and Anya Chalotra all return to lead the video game-based series into new territory. Cavill’s Geralt of Rivia finally met Allan’s Ciri at the close of the first season. Now, the series has open ground to work out how the pair will work together.
Other regulars like Joey Batey, MyAnna Buring, Lars Mikkelson, Royce Pierson, Mimi Ndiweni, Terence Maynard, Wilson Radjou-Pujlate, Lilly Cooper, Anna Schaffer, and Jeremy Crawford have returned for another go-around.
Netflix and Hissrich have already added to “The Witcher’s” lore this year. Hissrich produced the Han Kwang II-directed animated film, “The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf,” that came out in August. The series has already spun off to new features, showing that the property has some staying power.

“The Witcher” Season 2 premieres on December 17 on Netflix.
