The trio of Ryan Gosling, director Denis Villeneuve and the legendary Roger Deakins has definitely gotten us excited for “Blade Runner 2” but the initial trepidation is still there if only because the 1982 Ridley Scott-directed original is a stone-cold classic influenced a generation of filmmakers including directors as tonally and aesthetically far apart as Guillermo del Toro and Christopher Nolan. As is gospel now, Scott’s film has five widely and officially available cuts while another two (a San Diego Sneak Preview version and the 1986 U.S. broadcast version) have never seen official release. Yesterday, a special feature from the 2007 Complete Collector’s Edition of the film made the rounds on Reddit and the video may as well count as the 7.5th cut of “Blade Runner.”

Running a brisk 45 minutes, the special feature was titled “Deleted and Alternate Scenes” and was built from 24 deleted and alternate scenes (and takes) from the film and cut in order to create a truncated version of the film. To sum up, none of the footage used in this abridged version of the film shows up in any of the five available cuts. This short version is an interesting look at what might have been and also gives us even more insight on how films can morph through the post-production process.
If you want to physically own the special feature, then you’d need to pick up either the five-disc Complete Collector’s Edition of “Blade Runner” or the 30th Anniversary Collector’s Edition (there’s as many different home video releases as there are cuts of the film now) from Amazon or wherever you buy your movies.
