Well, here’s one that’s flown completely off our radar. The eagle-eyed Jeffrey Wells has dug up the trailer for thriller “Stone” starring heavyweights Edward Norton and Robert De Niro and directed by John Curran (“The Painted Veil,” screenwriter of “The Killer Inside Me”). It sounds like it should be winning combination right?
Unfortunately, despite the talent on screen the trailer plays like pretty much every third-tier thriller De Niro has gotten himself involved with in the latter part of his career. The ridiculous plot follows a convict (Norton, in cornrows) who get his girlfriend (Milla Jovovich) to seduce his parole office in order to blackmail him to let him out early. Was there no less elaborate plan he could have used? Anyway, here’s the synopsis from Millennium Films:
A ruthless convict engages in a series of disturbing mental games with his corrections officer in an attempt to gain parole. When the officer begins an affair with the convict’s wife, it soon becomes clear that both the convict and the officer’s motivations are suspect, provoking a dangerous ordeal.
The film was picked up by Overture Films last winter with plans to release it this year, but the status of the movie is now unknown as the studio went up for sale earlier this year, citing financial difficulties. The NSFW trailer (swearing, brief nudity) is below.
