Picking up the Golden Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival in 2014, it has taken a while for "Black Coal, Thin Ice" to start making its way to theaters. And while a U.S. distributor deal doesn’t seem to have been inked yet, the movie is gearing up to land in the U.K., and a new trailer has arrived.

Written and directed by Diao Yinan, and starring Liao Fan, Gwei Lun Mei and Wang Xuebing, the film follows an ex-cop who looks for redemption when a serial killer, at the heart of gruesome coal-plant murder he couldn’t solve years before, strikes again. And yet, despite the awards from Berlin, our critic was cool on the picture, writing in her review, "the film ultimately frustrates, willfully obscuring the apparatus of what appears at first to be a promising film noir framework."
"Black Coal, Thin Ice" opens in the UK on June 5th.
