Marvel Reveals New Animated 'What If' Trailer & A Sneak Peek Look At 'Ms. Marvel' Series

Marvel Studios brought their A-Game to the Disney Investor Day 2020 event as they seemingly were holding back a bunch of stuff we have to assume they wanted to show at San Diego Comic-Con 2020 before the convention was ultimately canceled due to the pandemic. However, this meant that Kevin Feige likely had a lot more on his hands to share with fans had they already done a Marvel panel over the summer.

The Disney+ presentation was impressive with new trailers for WandaVision,” “The Falcon & The Winter Soldier,” and “Loki.”

They even included new footage from their first Marvel Cinematic Universe animated project, What If…? that was extremely impressive with its animation style alongside creative character designs as well. You can get a gander at the upcoming series below, and the more I hear actor Jeffrey Wright voicing Uatu The Watcher, the more I want him to make the jump to live-action. The show’s premise is based on the comic books of the same title, which sees Uatu reveal familiar superheroes and villains but slightly altered. One segment includes a segment where Peggy Carter (voiced by Hayley Atwell, it seems) takes the super-soldier serum instead of Steve Rogers becoming Captain Carter, a female take on Captain America.

What If…? flips the script on the MCU, reimagining famous events from the films in unexpected ways. Coming to Disney+ in Summer 2021, Marvel Studios’ first animated series focuses on different heroes from the MCU, featuring a voice cast that includes a host of stars who reprise their roles. Bryan Andrews directs the series; Ashley Bradley is the head writer.

We also get a brief sizzle reel introducing us to Kamala Khan, aka “Ms. Marvel,” the studios’ newest teenage superhero, and shockingly some first-look footage featuring newcomer Iman Vellani as Khan. Impressive to have shots all ready to be shown, given that filming only began last month in Atlanta, Georgia.

In the comics, Khan is a super-fan of Brie Larson‘s Carol Danvers, aka “Captain Marvel,” and her superpowers are directly connected to The Inhumans. We don’t know for sure if they’ll attempt to bring in the royal family into the fold anytime soon, but there is a shot.

Ms. Marvel, launching on Disney+ in late 2021, is a new series that introduces Kamala Khan—a 16-year-old Pakistani-American growing up in Jersey City. A great student, an avid gamer, and a voracious fan-fiction scribe, she has a special affinity for Super Heroes, particularly Captain Marvel. But Kamala struggles to fit in at home and at school—that is, until she gets superpowers like the heroes she’s always looked up to. Life is easier with superpowers, right? Iman Vellani stars as Kamala Khan, aka Ms. Marvel; the cast also includes Aramis Knight, Saagar Shaikh, Rish Shah, Zenobia Shroff, Mohan Kapur, Matt Lintz, Yasmeen Fletcher, Laith Naki, Azher Usman, Travina Springer, and Nimra Bucha. Episodes are directed by Adil El Arbi & Bilall Fallah, Meera Menon, and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy.

What If…? is set to be released in 2021, and they’re already working on Season 2, according to previous interviews with Kevin Feige.
