For decades now, Hollywood has been obsessed with attempting to launch franchises based on the novels of author Tom Clancy. Most notably, there have been about a half dozen reboots of the Jack Ryan character with no less than five actors in the lead. Then, you currently have John Krasinksi doing his best Jack Ryan over at Amazon in a TV series. Well, for the newest Clancy franchise, Hollywood is looking at Michael B. Jordan to carry the torch in the upcoming film “Without Remorse,” though he’s not attempting to be Jack Ryan. He’s someone very different.
Skydance is set to release “Without Remorse” next fall, and as a first tease, the studio has released a short video showing Jordan as John Clark, a soldier that is attempting to figure out what’s really going on in a mission. You know, typical Clancy stuff.

“Without Remorse” is the first film in what Skydance is hoping will be a new franchise. Jordan is at the height of his powers in Hollywood, coming off 2018’s incredible role in “Black Panther” and then following that up with two great performances in the “Creed” films. If you wanted to build a franchise around a young actor, Jordan is definitely one of the best shots. The film is directed by Stefano Sollima, who is probably best known for his 2018 film “Sicario: Day of the Soldado.”
And trust us, Skydance needs a hit, so the studio is going to do everything in its power to make “Without Remorse” succeed. In 2019 alone, Skydance has released two big bombs, “Gemini Man” and “Terminator: Dark Fate.” And in December, the studio is betting big on Michael Bay and Ryan Reynolds for the film “6 Underground.” Thankfully for the studio, that film is being released directly onto Netflix.
In addition to “Without Remorse,” which is arriving in September 2020, Skydance has “Top Gun: Maverick” coming next summer, the ‘GI Joe’ spin-off “Snake Eyes” coming in October 2020, and “The Tomorrow War” coming in December 2020. All of those films are also potential franchises. Needless to say, Michael B. Jordan is hoping that Skydance’s record improves before “Without Remorse” drops in theaters.
