Well, it might not be very funny, but its certainly the edgiest thing Chris Rock has been associated with in years.
Vulture has stumbled upon Chris Rock’s parody video of Outkast’s “Hey Ya!” called “Crackers.” It was apparently made way back in the halcyon days of 2004 after which Rock reportedly sat on it but its now found its way onto YouTube. In the clip, Rock turns the song into some sort of misguided screed about white people. It’s pretty amateurish and not particularly funny, but too broad to be offensive either. It’s more like a train wreck of bad lyrical ideas that tries to tie in slavery, rape and small dick jokes together into a laugh riot. As Rock told VH1 at the time, “The song ‘Hey Ya!’ just seems so happy, so any depressing lyric with that same melody seemed funny to me.” We’re going to go ahead and guess its probably still only funny to Rock.
At the very least, this video is probably far more entertaining than his forthcoming remake “Death At A Funeral” opening on April 16th. In another WTF, Neil LaBute directed it.
